Our speaker for November is Ron Nicholson, our current Mohave County As-sessor. Most of us know Ron well as he is a “regular” at our luncheons. We appreciate his presence at many of our meetings (even when not running for election) because he shows by coming to our meeting and many other Repub-lican functions that he is truly interested in hearing the views of the average citizen as regards to his position in our local Government. He is always ready to answer questions and help the property owner who needs the answers about his/her property. Ron’s work ethic is ingrained from his younger days when he worked 8 hours a day and also went to college full time. Ron under-stands how difficult it can be for the average guy trying to get ahead (and of course we know how much determination it took on his part to complete his goals.)
His current position as Assessor has helped the lower income senior by freezing taxes on their home so seniors can afford to stay in their home unlike in other areas where older people are forced to move due to huge increases in the property tax base. Ron also put together an extensive website to explain to all of us how property is taxed – he also has the application available online for seniors so they can apply to freeze the property tax on their personal home computer.
This meeting with Ron will be about the changes coming to your property taxes. Ron approached our club two months ago to say that it was imperative that he speak about these changes that have been instituted by both the State and County.
Ron has simplified and made transparent on the web the functions of the Assessor’s office/ how the Assessor’s office works and what the Assessor’s office can do for you to alleviate property tax that may have become a burden to you. He has given his time to speak to many citizens groups in an effort to help the property owner whenever possible.
Ron is running once again as a candidate for the Assessor’s office in 2012. He wants to speak about his future plans to increase efficiency and help the citizens of Mohave County be informed of any increases or changes to the tax base as regards to property tax. Ron wants you to remember that his office DOES NOT institute these changes as that is a function of State and County Government. He must, however initiate them through his office as Assessor.
