Cactus Wren is affiliated with
Arizona Federation of Republican Women and the National
Federation of Republican Women. The club was first chartered in
1967 and one of the first clubs to meet in the evening for the
participation of professional women. Our club's primary function is to inform
the electorate through political education and increase the
effectiveness of women in the cause of good government through
political participation. We support the objectives and polices of
the Republican State Committee and work for the election of WOMEN
and of the Republican nominees.

Bio's for
our candidates:

Wil Cardon
attended Mountain View High School in Mesa where he was successful,
both as a student, and as an all-state
wide receiver on the football team. He was recruited by and attended
Brigham Young University, later transferring to and graduating from
Stanford University. While they had the opportunity to stay in
California, Wil and his wife Nicole moved back to Arizona where he
worked two jobs for several years, before earning an MBA from
Harvard Business School. After graduation, Wil returned to Arizona
and took over the family business, The Cardon Group, which
was originally founded in 1934 by Wil’s grandfather, Wilford Pratt
Cardon, or “Pat” Cardon as he was better known. For the last 15
years, Wil Cardon has been diversifying the business, creating jobs,
investing in products and properties, and helping start- up
companies
succeed.
This real world experience is whyWil Cardon is the candidate who
best understands what businesses need to create jobs and what it
will take to get the U.S. economy growing again. In addition to
running a successful business, Wil and his family have been
dedicated to improving our community. Wil is involved with numerous
charitable organizations including the Banner Health Foundation in
Phoenix. With the Cardon’s help, Banner Health was able to expand
their Children’s Hospital to provide
248
pediatric beds and six operating rooms. In appreciation for their
generosity, Banner Health recently renamed the hospital
The Cardon Children’s Medical Center.
Wil and his wife Nicole live in Mesa with their five children.

Clair Van
Steenwyk
(aka Van the Radio Man) grew up in Bellflower, Ca. and began his
political activity at age 9 by campaigning for Eisenhower door to
door. He also began his working career at the same age going door to
door delivering flyers for a furniture store. Vans work history went
from jobs such as washing dishes, mopping floors, etc. to becoming
an Executive in the Food Industry in California with companies such
as, Walmart, Costco, Sam's Club, Kroger Markets, Albertsons and
others. Van believes by applying simple business practices to the
Federal Government, making all Departments, Agencies and Laws both
Past and any Upcoming Legislation must be in total compliance with
the Constitution. This simple practice when implemented will
dramatically shrink the size and cost of Government, Freeing Up Our
Economy.

Born in
southeastern Wisconsin,
Bryan Hackbarth and his
wife Lourdes own and operate a cleaning contracting business in
Youngtown, where they have lived since 1999. As the former mayor,
from May 2003 to December 2006 he created business improvements that
brought more businesses into Youngtown and had the opportunity to
hone his skills by attending the Southwest Leadership Program for
the Institute for Local Government, as well as studying Public
Policy and Management in local and state government, through the
University of Arizona. It is this experience that has lead Bryan to
be concerned that our country’s lending institutions are preventing
small businesses from being allowed to compete fairly on the
marketplace… and Bryan understands small business issues. Bryan is a
supporter of every member of our military branches, whether active
duty or retired. He supports their work abroad and at bases
throughout Arizona and the United States and will do what he can to
insure they are given the respect and honor they so rightly deserve.

Douglas McKee grew up
in Darien, Connecticut and received his Bachelor of Science degree
in Political Science from Southern Connecticut State University.
Prior to his moving out West he was working on the floor of the New
York Stock Exchange where he was employed by a private specialist
firm. His passion for the great outdoors brought him to Arizona in
1991 when he traded in his Wall Street attire for a good pair of
work boots and a new career in the construction industry. He started
Grand Canyon Development, a general contracting firm in 1994.
Growing evermore concerned about the direction that our country is
heading in and his desire to keep our Republic alive for his five
children, he has decided to exchange his work boots for his old Wall
Street attire. This time he plans to wear it in Washington D.C.
where he hopes to represent
the fine people of Arizona in the U.S. Senate. Doug has nearly
thirty years of experience in the private sector and knows first
hand what the people of Arizona and the
people
of the United States want and need. He is a true people’s candidate
because he comes from the people and he wants to bring your values
to Washington and not bring Washington’s values to you.
Doug knows where government
should begin and where it should end. These boundaries were drawn in
the final draft of a document knows as The Constitution of The
United States of America at the first Constitutional Convention
which concluded on September 17, 1787. These lines, having been
intentionally blurred by continued changes in policy has inspired
Doug to get out among his fellow citizens to deliver the message of
liberty, to unify as Americans, to rally behind the Constitution
and reestablish our
cherished Republic.
