Election 2010 saw Arizona Republicans sweep the blue out of most of
our state. We all did a yeoman’s job and lots of heavy lifting
beginning with the Primary and culminating on November 2nd
within hours of the polls closing.
The highlight of
Election 2010 for Region III was when Huachuca club member Gail
Griffin became Legislative District 25s Senator Griffin and Graham
County’s member became Legislative District 5s Representative
Barton. And ladies, 2010 is only the warm up to 2012!
For the second year in
a row, our own Vera Hylsky was recognized for her hard work by the
Arizona Republican Party. Last year she was named 2010s Most
Outstanding Volunteer, and in January Vera received the Most
Outstanding County Chairman award. Way to go Vera!!
HARW
The Huachuca ladies continued their regular activities working right
around the election. They collected toys for the Sierra Vista Fire
Department for distribution to needy children in the area. Many
people also brought non-perishable food or donated money for St.
Vincent De Paul's Food Bank. The Sierra
Vista Library received the support of the HARW club through
the Mamie Eisenhower
Literacy Program.
The Huachuca Area Republican Women’s club now meets on the second
Tuesday of the month at Pueblo Del Sol
Country Club. It’s been reported that club growth may be
responsible for the move.
GCRW
And not sitting still, the Graham County Republican Women acquired
“the Big Red Tent,” a beautiful ten by twenty “pop-up” with sides
and windows in lovely Republican Red. Club President Sharon Watson
and the ladies first deployed it at the Safford Salsa Festival
to showcase Republican candidates and sell unique Republican
oriented jewelry.
The large canopy, complete with lighting, music, and smiling
volunteers has quickly become a hit at regional events. Most
recently President Sharon Watson, ventured to the State’s Capitol
for the opening day ceremonies marking the 50th Session
of the Arizona Legislature and hosted a catered luncheon on the lawn
of the Arizona House of Representatives for supporters of the LD5
Republican A-B-C Team (Senator Allen, and Representatives
Barton and Crandell). Supporters of the Team came from
as far away as Winslow and Greenlee County to celebrate. Bringing
her own sparkle to the event was AzFRW President Leona Johnson! And
of course there was a big “Graham County Republican Woman” sign
prominently displayed at “The Big Red Tent.”
Of course this might have something to do with the Graham County
Club breaking 60 members!! Nearly double their historic membership
level. Way to go ladies!
TMRW
Thunder Mountain’s monthly socializing mixers rocked off in January
at the Big Fat Greek Restaurant where they launched their annual
fund raising raffle. This year’s prize is a $500 coupon at Trail
Boss Outfitters in Sierra Vista. What a great idea; good for the
local merchants and great for the club treasury.
Thunder Mountain this past December mourned the loss of their member
Ann Wood. We’re told things like this happen in threes, and in
January JoAnn Gaffen underwent surgery while Louis Holland continued
to recover from a fractured lumbar. Our thoughts and prayers are
extended to our fellow Federation ladies. A silver lining to this
run of 3’s came on December 17 when TMRW President Zanetta’s family
officially welcomed their new daughter Angelica into the family!
