Mary Anne (Dolly) Burr past president of Pima County Republican Women’s Club (Tucson)

Mary Anne (Dolly) Burr 8/19/1917 - 5/28/2011

Few people have lived their life with more passion, sense of adventure, love, curiosity, spiritual depth and humor than the "one and only" Mary Anne Burr. Actively involved in politics, she was very an AzFRW member.  She always had a smile on her face.  Born in Davenport, Iowa of immigrant parents from Romania, she was raised during the depression in a family of ten. She dreamed of a better life and enthusiastically relished an extraordinary one. A flight nurse during World War II in the Pacific, she met her future husband, the dashing flight surgeon, Dr. Sherwood Burr, with whom they raised three children in Tucson: Minda Burr, Sherwood "Woody" Burr (who sadly passed on Thanksgiving, 2009) and Bradley Burr.  She served our country greatly as one of the first participating flight nurses flying into the South Pacific.  Mary Anne was an award-winning gymnast, diver and swimmer in her day.   She also went back to college and graduated from the U of A with honors at the age of 44 and was actively involved in politics and community service for decades. One of the highlights of her life was co-founding and participating in the festive monthly "Fugitives" social club that lasted for 40 years. She was a world traveler, writer, artist, golfer and card player. Her laugh and zest for life were contagious and she was loved fervently by her friends and family, which grew to include Brad's wife, Cathy Burr and their two daughters, Megan and Maryanne, as well as Woody's wife, Kathryn and their son, Sherwood "Buddy" Burr. Her family threw her a living Memorial and Celebration of life party for her 90th birthday so she could actually enjoy it. So in lieu of a memorial, the family is holding a private service for her. We will all miss her immensely, but there is much comfort in knowing that she is with the Lord.

In Memory of GOLDA O. KERL 1921 - 2011

It is with deep sadness that we have to announce the death of longtime Arizona Republican Party volunteer GOLDA KERL.
Golda was THE hardest working Republican I have ever seen!  In the 2004 campaign for the re-election of President George W. Bush, Golda was out there EVERY DAY working hard for the President!
Golda and her husband moved from Palm Springs, CA in the early 1970's.  She registered over 30,000 new voters to the rolls in Arizona!

Golda Kerl was a Delegate to many National Republican Conventions, the last in 2004.  She was the LD-6 Republican 1st Vice-Chairman for many years.  All who knew Golda loved her.  A kinder soul you would never meet.

Golda went to Eternal Life on May 19, 2011. She is survived by her daughter Laurie McCall, son, Ron (Sheryl) Binger, 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. She was born in Huxton, CO on March 9, 1921. She was a posse member and Sheriff Joe referred to her as one of his "Golden Girls", there were three of them. She was a posse member since 1994 and won numerous awards. She was part of the Executive Posse. Golda was also very active in the Republican Party and could often be found at the Headquarters stuffing envelopes.

Peggy Bilsten called Golda her "Street Walker"! She walked the streets for signatures for many of the candidates. She received many Presidential Party awards. She has been a delegate many times and enjoyed the conventions. She will be missed.

A visitation will be held on at 9:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 28, 2011 with funeral services at 10:00 a.m. at Phoenix Memorial Park & Mortuary 200 West Beardsley Rd. Phoenix, Arizona. Please visit www.phoenixmemorialmortuary.com
