 2010 Members News

Nancy Arnold, Member of Lincoln RW has been invited to be a member of the

NFRW MELP/Literacy Committee. She will be in Charleston introducing her book

to NFRW members from all over the country. Congratulations, Nancy!

Dear Friends and Fellow Patriots,

I had the privilege today, of being filmed as part of a documentary, being made by actress and fellow Ft. Worth native & patriot, Janine Turner.  My wonderful writing student, Jorey Cohen, won first place for her poem, What the Constitution Means to Me, written during my class, as part of the national writing contest sponsored by Ms. Turner's organization, Constituting America.  ( The judge who chose her poem is the Poet Laurent of Texas, which also thrilled me!) The taping took 3 hours after school, two of which were in my classroom, interviewing and talking with both Jorey and me.  And, they even filmed a section about my book, Patriotic Pups! Wow!   It was an amazing afternoon, and at one point she and I were laughing and singing songs together from the musical,"1776." Jorey's prize is an all expense paid trip for two to Philadelphia, where she will read her poem at Independence Square during a Constitution Day Celebration on Sept. 17th.  At the end of our taping today Ms. Turner surprised me by graciously inviting me to come to Philadelphia and wear my Martha Washington costume for the celebration, as "An example," she said, "of what teachers should be doing for students!"  So how exciting is that?! Smile What a delight it will be for me to hear Jorey read that poem where it all started for The U.S.A., and to be there myself as part of the celebration.  I just had to share this wonderful news!

Have a great week!
Nancy

Congratulations, Rae Chornenky was elected  the NFRW 1st VP at the NFRW Spring Board of Directors meeting in Oklahoma City.

That resulted in an interesting election as someone then had to be elected to take Rae's position as 2nd VP.  Patt Parker of Maryland, currently Member at Large was elected.  Then someone had to be elected to the vacated Member at Large position.  Jo Mitchell of New Mexico was elected.  The voting then stopped.  The reason for this unusual election was the resignation of 1st Vice-president Joyce Smith because of critical health issues.  Joyce was the creator of the One Plus One membership program and the New Generations outreach program.  She is in our thoughts and prayers!

We are so proud of Rae!  We've already begun the Rae for NFRW President campaign for the 2011 Convention in Kansas City.
